February 2016 - German Ghana Investment Forum
In February 2016 a small delegation from economies and science led by the Chief District Executive of the Salzlandkreis, Mr. Markus Bauer, went to Ghana to set up a partnership between the Salzlandkreis and the Asante Akyem District.
The areas of interest for the delegation were:
- Renewable Energies
- Waste Management
Before the delegation went to the district to talk about the local specifics, it visited the German Embassy, the Ministry of Energy as well as Ghana's biggest Waste Management Company in Accra to understand the challenges and development plans in these areas for Ghana as a whole.
After that the delegation went to the Asante Akyem District where the German Ghana Investment Forum took place.
The results of delegation trip were:
- Education: here results can be achieved in the short and medium term through extending the existing cooperation between the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences and the Ghana Technology University College. Starting in September, the MBA International Trade will be offered in a Distance Learning format (online based) to allow people living all over the country and West-Africa to participate in that program. Also, the Bachelor of Solar Engineering, starting in September as well, will contribute to support the challenging goals of Ghana in regards to its Solar Energy Program. Moreover, will the educational associations of the district offer certificate courses adapted to the local needs together with the Chamber of Crafts in Halle.
- Agriculture: in this area, possible cooperations will be focused on the improvement of the mechanization of cultivation and processing of agricultural goods. Here, new models of financing are developed that are long-term sustainable, also with the help of micro-financing.
- Renewable energies: next to solar energy, energy can be produced with biomass. Here, further discussions will be made to come up with financing models.
- Waste Management: due to the specifics of Ghana, the delegation saw only few possibilities for a cooperation in that area in the medium term. For that reason it was decided to concentrate the efforts in the areas 1-3.
At the end of the delegation trip Mr. Bauer and Prof. Dr. Cornelia Scott were invited to a 1-hour interview at the Ghanaian TV-Channel "My Joy TV".
